Curtis Armstrong Then and Now: See the 'Revenge of the Nerds' Star's Transformation
By Maya Lin-Takahashi
An unexpected pillar of Armstrong’s modern career lies within publishing. Over the past decade, the audiobook narration sector exploded into a billion-dollar global industry, and Armstrong found himself uniquely equipped for the demands of the recording booth.
His natural affinity for complex sentence structure and character distinction drew praise from authors and publishers alike. As documented by an oral history from the North Carolina Rabbit Hole, indie authors and major publishers alike sought him out not as a novelty marketing tactic, but because his vocal control elevates prose. In that account, a Greensboro author worked through extensive logistical channels to hire Armstrong for a sprawling novel narration, only to find the veteran actor treating the text with academic rigor.
In 2017, Armstrong penned his own celebrated memoir, Revenge of the Nerd: Or... The Singular Adventures of the Man Who Would Be Booger. The book chronicled the hard realities of life as a Hollywood character actor without self-indulgent nostalgia. Readers discovered a sharp, literate observer of an erratic industry, a man who collected rare Arthur Conan Doyle editions between takes of raunchy comedies.
