Frank Sinatra's Marriages in Pictures: Archival Glimpses of His Four Iconic Hollywood Weddings
In the mid-1960s, Sinatra reinvented his public image. He headlined the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas, dominated the music charts, and led the swaggering inner circle known worldwide as the Rat Pack. Then came an announcement that caught Hollywood completely flat-footed: the 50-year-old singer was courting a 21-year-old rising actress named Mia Farrow.
They married on July 19, 1966, in a blink-and-you-missed-it 15-minute civil ceremony at the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas. Photographs from the event show Farrow in a minimalist pale dress with a signature pixie cut, standing beside a tuxedoed Sinatra. The three-decade age gap drew relentless criticism from gossip columnists, who predicted the union would collapse under the weight of contrasting lifestyles. Farrow was interested in Eastern philosophy, counterculture movements, and artistic experimentation; Sinatra lived by rigid, old-school nightclub codes.
The fracture point arrived on a movie set. Sinatra demanded that Farrow abandon filming Roman Polanski's psychological thriller Rosemary's Baby to co-star in his crime drama The Detective. When production on Polanski's film ran over schedule and Farrow refused to walk off the set, Sinatra dispatched his lawyer to serve her with divorce papers directly in front of the cast and crew in November 1967. Their divorce became official in Mexico in August 1968, lasting barely two years. Despite the humiliating public exit, they rebuilt a tender, lifelong friendship that lasted until his death.
