Famous Celebrities in Guatemala: the Complete Guide to Top Stars and Icons

Guatemalan musicians have exerted an outsized influence on Spanish-language music across four decades. At the forefront is Ricardo Arjona, hailing from Jocotenango. With career sales exceeding 80 million records worldwide, Arjona is one of the best-selling Latin American recording artists in modern history.
Arjona built his initial audience by pairing direct, narrative lyricism with accessible pop-rock melodies. Tracks such as "Mujeres," "Señora de las Cuatro Décadas," and "Historia de Taxi" became multi-generational anthems. Rather than remaining tied to corporate label structures, Arjona established his own independent label, Metamorfosis, in 2011. His stadium tours routinely break attendance records from Buenos Aires to Madrid.
Parallel to Arjona’s arena-rock empire is the refined, cross-genre mastery of Gaby Moreno. Born in Guatemala City, Moreno blends folk, blues, soul, and traditional bolero into an unmistakable bilingual voice.
Moreno earned the Latin Grammy for Best New Artist in 2013, later picking up a Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Album for X Mí (Vol. 1) in 2024. Beyond her solo records, Moreno co-wrote the theme song for the television series Parks and Recreation and supplied the voice and theme music for Disney’s first Latina princess in Elena of Avalor.
In mainstream Latin pop, Carlos Peña achieved national hero status when he won the second season of Latin American Idol in 2007. His win prompted massive public watch-parties across Guatemala City, and his subsequent romantic pop albums earned immediate platinum certifications in Central America.
