Everything You Need to Know About 'Hymn of Heaven': Lyrics, Meaning, and Chords
By Chloe Bennett
Q1: What is the main message behind "Hymn of Heaven"?
The song centers on biblical eschatology, specifically the promise of eternal life, the end of suffering, and bodily resurrection as described in Revelation 21. It reframes present earthly trials through the lens of future restoration.
Q2: What is the original key of the song, and which key works best for Sunday services?
Phil Wickham records and performs the song in the key of D Major, hitting vocal peaks up to an A4. Because this is difficult for average vocalists, many worship leaders drop the arrangement to C Major or Bb Major for better congregational singing.
Q3: How does the radio version differ from the 2021 album track?
The 2022 radio version features a streamlined running time, tighter bridge builds, and an updated vocal balance designed for commercial radio formats, while the album version features a longer liturgical build suitable for live church worship.
Q4: Who cowrote "Hymn of Heaven" alongside Phil Wickham?
The track was cowritten by Phil Wickham, Chris Davenport, Brian Johnson, and Bill Johnson during the 2020 lockdown period.
