Within NewJeans, Hyein holds the title of maknae, the youngest member of the group. Despite her commanding vocal tone and statuesque height (reaching nearly 170 cm by mid-2023), she remains significantly younger than the group’s leadership core. The oldest members, Minji and Hanni, were born in 2004, creating a four-year gap with Hyein.
| Member | Birthdate | Age at July 2022 Debut | Age Across 2023 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Minji (Kim Min-ji) | May 7, 2004 | 18 years old | Turned 19 |
| Hanni (Hanni Pham) | October 6, 2004 | 17 years old | Turned 19 |
| Danielle (Danielle Marsh) | April 11, 2005 | 17 years old | Turned 18 |
| Haerin (Kang Hae-rin) | May 15, 2006 | 16 years old | Turned 17 |
| Hyein (Lee Hye-in) | April 21, 2008 | 14 years old | Turned 15 |
This distribution created a protective sisterly dynamic that the group frequently displayed during public appearances. While Danielle and Haerin often operated as the middle bridges of the group, Minji stepped into informal leadership duties, managing press questions while Hyein navigated the sensory overload of international media tours.
