From Sleeper Indie to Vod Phenomenon: How Horror Hit 'Obsession' Became 2026'S Biggest Surprise
By Sarah Jenkins
Q1: Where can viewers watch 'Obsession' online?
As of July 6, 2026, the film is available to rent or purchase across major digital streaming platforms, including Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, Google Play, and Vudu, with an ad-supported streaming window scheduled for late autumn.
Q2: Is the movie connected to Curry Barker's previous project 'Milk & Serial'?
No. While both films highlight Barker's signature low-budget realism and psychological dread, Obsession is an entirely standalone story with an original cast, narrative world, and thematic focus.
Q3: Why do many viewers believe 'Obsession' is based on a real event?
Barker implemented naturalistic lighting, raw ambient audio, and mock-surveillance framing that mimic documentary and found-footage aesthetics. Combined with speculative TikTok videos, this stylistic choice led many to assume the plot was drawn from true crime records.
