Does Fedex Actually Have Notaries in Stores? the Truth Behind the Counter
FedEx addressed customer demand for document signing by striking a formal commercial alliance with Boston-based Notarize in March 2022. The agreement integrated digital notarization into FedEx Office’s print and shipping network, steering consumers toward Remote Online Notarization (RON).
The setup bypasses the physical front desk entirely. A user scans an in-store QR code or visits the dedicated FedEx online portal using a smartphone, tablet, or laptop equipped with a camera and microphone.

Identity verification relies on credential analysis and Knowledge-Based Authentication (KBA). The system scans the customer's government-issued photo ID against identity databases. The user must then correctly answer five security questions drawn from credit bureau files within two minutes, achieving an 80% passing score.
Once identity verification clears, the platform connects the signer to an independent, state-commissioned online notary via a two-way audio-visual feed. The signer applies an electronic signature, and the notary attaches an encrypted, tamper-evident digital certificate alongside an electronic seal. The entire process takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes. Signers immediately download the completed, legally binding PDF.
