Network television was never Jacobson's sole creative interest. Driven by a desire for narrative experimentation, he expanded into legitimate theater, establishing himself as a producer and theatrical bookwriter. According to documentation compiled by BroadwayWorld, Jacobson participated in bringing major commercial revivals to the Broadway stage, including the Tony-winning production of Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella in 2013.

His work on theatrical projects allowed him to explore timing outside the rigid constraints of a 22-minute television structure. In theater, Jacobson leaned into longer character arcs and live orchestration, collaborating with composers and playwrights in New York and London. When Jacobson and Drescher announced they were developing The Nanny as a Broadway musical, with Rachel Bloom composing the score, theater enthusiasts welcomed the news. Jacobson's deep familiarity with the original script ensures the stage adaptation stays anchored to its blue-collar origins.
