Apple Pencil Not Charging? the Real Reasons and How to Fix It Fast
A stylus that appears non-functional is sometimes fully charged but simply failing to communicate through the operating system. Verify the actual electrical state rather than assuming the hardware is dead.
When docking an inductive model, either the Apple Pencil 2nd generation or Apple Pencil Pro, the top edge of iPadOS should immediately display a pill-shaped pop-up banner showing the Pencil name alongside a percentage indicator and a small lightning-bolt symbol. If this banner flashes for half a second and disappears without displaying an active percentage, the tablet detects magnetic proximity but has aborted the data handshake.
To check real-time charging status, swipe right to your iPad Today View or add an iPad battery widget to your home screen. A properly functioning pencil displays an active lightning icon directly inside the widget dial.
Inductive models feature an exceptional fast charge time: roughly 15 seconds of contact yields approximately 30 minutes of basic drawing time. A full cycle from 0% to 100% finishes in roughly 20 to 25 minutes. If your widget reports 0% after five minutes of solid docking, power transfer is not occurring.
