Anna Anon in Uma Musume: Fact-Checking the Latest Internet Craze
By James H. Sterling
Every legitimate athlete in the franchise traces her lineage directly to a registered Thoroughbred recorded by the Japan Racing Association (JRA) or international registries. When examining race records for an equine athlete named "Anna Anon," the search hits a complete dead end. Neither the JRA, NAR (National Association of Racing), nor international stud books contain an entry matching the pedigree implied by community posts.
Instead, internet sleuths traced the visual design back to the anime subculture mashups surrounding BanG Dream! It's MyGO!!!!!, specifically character Anon Chihaya merged with custom racing silks. Fans frequently create original character fan art that imagines popular anime personalities running in the Twinkle Series. In this instance, that fan community lore broke out of its creative containment box when paired with high-end emulation software.
