Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging Reboot Timeline: from 2008 Cult Favorite to 2026 Tv Production
By Sarah Jenkins
The modern television reboot, officially entering development as reported by JustWatch and British Comedy Guide, marks a major milestone for the estate of the late Louise Rennison, who passed away in 2016. Rennison always maintained that Georgia’s voice was inherently serial. A 100-minute film required drastic pacing shortcuts, skipping entire subplots involving Georgia's cat Angus, her oddball younger sister Libby, and the full dynamic of her friend group.
An episodic framework solves these long-standing structural problems. The expanded running time gives writers room to flesh out the eccentric home life of the Nicolson household, the bizarre school interactions with teachers like Herr Kammler, and the rotating roster of teen crushes that stretched across books three through ten.
Production insiders point out that modern youth programming has shifted noticeably away from cynical, hyper-sexualized drama toward honest, comedy-driven adolescence, a format popularized by hits like Derry Girls and Heartstopper. Rennison’s writing matches this tone cleanly: deeply human, absurdly self-absorbed, yet completely grounded in real warmth.
