A New Titan Emerges: Inside the First-Ever Lego Set to Cross 12,000 Pieces
Capturing Antoni Gaudí’s unfinished Barcelona masterpiece in ABS plastic required solutions that flat-sided architecture never demanded. The Sagrada Família features sweeping parabolic arches, asymmetrical stone trees, and detailed biblical bas-reliefs. To recreate those fluid, organic shapes at desk scale, Billund’s design team had to deploy thousands of miniature architectural components, clips, curved plates, and specialized joints.
This construction methodology pushed the total inventory past the 12,000 piece threshold. Early leaks sparked intense chatter on collector forums like Eurobricks and Reddit’s r/lego, where fans questioned whether an interlocking brick system could capture Catalan Modernism without collapsing under its own weight. The final product solves this through internal Technic lattice cores that support dozens of exterior sub-assemblies. The Nativity facade alone accounts for hundreds of micro-elements, producing a dense structural mass unmatched by conventional boxed sets.
